"NameGender" (Built-in Classifier)

Determine which gender a first name is.

Classes

Details

  • This classifier is based on the US Census data. It will give poor performances for names that are rare in the US.

Basic Examples  (2)

Find the possible gender of a person from their first name:

Wolfram Language code: Classify["NameGender", "Stacy"]

Classify multiple examples:

Wolfram Language code: Classify["NameGender", {"Tom", "Stacy", "John", "Natalie"}]

Unrecognized names will return Indeterminate:

Wolfram Language code: Classify["NameGender", "Joya"]

Obtain the probabilities for the possible classes:

Wolfram Language code: Classify["NameGender", "Joya", "Probabilities"]

Obtain a ClassifierFunction for this classifier:

Wolfram Language code: c = Classify["NameGender"]

Apply the classifier to a list of names:

Wolfram Language code: c[{"Tom", "Stacy", "John", "Natalie", "Joya"}]
